We participated in our first official campaign event of Campaign 2012 today. \u00a0 We (and our retro-van campaign vehicle) were in Butler, Ohio’s Nifty Fifties<\/em> \u00a0 parade. \u00a0 There were old Impalas with fuzzy dice, bobby socks, t-shirts with the sleeves rolled up… \u00a0 Fittingly, it is ‘best of’ this era that we ask Americans to consider recapturing. \u00a0 Back then it was a slower pace of life, neighbors helped neighbors more and \u00a0the streets were a lot safer for kids… \u00a0 Our kids, on roller skates, tossed candy to the spectators and I would follow up: \u00a0 “That candy is actually a campaign bribe,” I’d smile, then hand them some literature and continue. \u00a0 “I’m running for president in Campaign 2012.” \u00a0 \u00a0Most people would then, inevitably, look quizzical. \u00a0 “Well, it’s never too early to start<\/em>,” I’d add, then head on. \u00a0 Most of them seemed good naturedly receptive enough, especially the ones \u00a0I gave the Tootsie Rolls to.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
