{"id":864,"date":"2008-11-07T22:39:34","date_gmt":"2008-11-07T22:39:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.com\/wheresjoe\/?p=300"},"modified":"2008-11-07T22:39:34","modified_gmt":"2008-11-07T22:39:34","slug":"11608","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=864","title":{"rendered":"11\/6\/08"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I talked with Paul Breen today. \u00a0 He is a <strong>Professor of Finance<\/strong> at Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio. \u00a0 He said our current financial systems in America, for the most part, all revolve around credit. Professor Breen said when we started going &#8220;down the slope (in regard to our current financial crisis)&#8221; is when young couples, several decades ago, started buying houses they couldn&#8217;t afford on credit, which has now cascaded into a tremendous amount of foreclosures&#8230; \u00a0 <strong>Some &#8220;average Joe&#8221; common sense<\/strong>: \u00a0 People <em>could<\/em> \u00a0 actually afford many of these homes if they used some simple, creative smarts. \u00a0 They could rent out a room in their homes. \u00a0 They could, in addition, \u00a0convert a garage to, say, an efficiency apartment. \u00a0 They could even house-share with another family, halving the expenses altogether&#8230; \u00a0 It just that, well, we&#8217;ve become <em>so<\/em> gluttonous and selfish \u00a0about &#8220;our space.&#8221; \u00a0 And this is not so much an endemic \u00a0financial malady &#8212; as it is a spiritual one. \u00a0 \u00a0 <strong>Note:<\/strong> \u00a0 Professor Breen said credit (read: debt) is imbedded in America. \u00a0 But was this God&#8217;s plan? \u00a0 Many of us, in essence, have become compulsive debtors (credit cards, car purchases, home purchases&#8230;). \u00a0 In California, I researched the group Debtor&#8217;s Anonymous. \u00a0 People here admit to their addiction to debting and the formula is simply not to debt anymore, one day at a time. \u00a0And somehow, with God&#8217;s grace, they are able to live in this society without debting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I talked with Paul Breen today. \u00a0 He is a Professor of Finance at Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio. \u00a0 He said our current financial systems in America, for the most part, all revolve around credit.
