Buckeye Back Road Tour cont<\/strong>.: \u00a0 We continue to stump in Ohio. \u00a0 Last night we stopped in tiny Waynesville, Ohio, where ‘Joe the house painter<\/a> (that would be me)’<\/strong> met ‘Steve the house painter’<\/strong> in the Fan Pizza<\/em> \u00a0joint (sports motif). \u00a0 Steve’s business is called Hahn’s Wet Paint<\/strong> and his work van sports different colored hand prints, from various customers. \u00a0 Neat idea, nice guy… \u00a0 After talking to Steve, I put up some fliers and passed out some cards and bumper stickers in Waynesville. \u00a0 Well, it’s either that or multi-million dollar TV ads. \u00a0 And those ads anymore seem, oh, so passee. \u00a0 Don’t they? \u00a0 …Today we traveled to Botkins, Ohio, where I talked with Ron Steinke at a ‘Mom & Pop’ type downtown service station. \u00a0 Ron told me the station has been in his \u00a0family for five generations and he proudly showed me a series of photos (some sepia-toned even) of his dad, grandfather, great grandfather… all at the station over the years. \u00a0 It opened in 1905. \u00a0 A sign at the station at the time read: \u00a0 “If our work pleases you, tell others. If not, tell us.”<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0 \u00a0Ron said the heritage, often lost in today’s society, was for the sons to work with their father at the station. \u00a0 These stations, these small town businesses, were once the backbone of our country. \u00a0 Sadly, however, they are gradually becoming extinct. How we would work to change<\/a> that is.. \u00a0 I passed on a button and a campaign card to Ron who said he was independent and would consider us. \u00a0 \u00a0 Note:<\/strong> \u00a0 The polls are still showing we’re behind (Ron’s consideration notwithstanding), but we’re confident it’s just the “margin of error.” \u00a0 Although my wife, and campaign manager, Liz, said I have to stop telling people that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
