Buckeye Back Road Tour:<\/strong> \u00a0 We stopped in Columbus where we learned about Saint Paul’s Outreach. \u00a0 This is a group of Catholic college students who are living in community and trying to evangelize \u00a0on Ohio State campus, and beyond. \u00a0 Saint Paul’s views itself as “set apart.” \u00a0 And it is. \u00a0 We got there on Friday and asked what they were doing that evening. \u00a0 The students \u00a0said they would be holding \u00a0Eucharistic adoration, a prayer service and then watching the movie The Passion of Christ<\/em>. \u00a0 Not exactly, oh, \u00a0what all <\/em>the other OSU students were doing \u00a0that Friday night. \u00a0 Brendan O’Rourke told me the \u00a0Saint Paul’s Outreach \u00a0students were supporting each other in living a “universal call to holiness.” \u00a0 He said for instance, that \u00a0his community members \u00a0(in line with Catholic Church teaching) don’t believe in pre-marital sex. \u00a0 To that end, the guys “interact properly with the sisters,” said O’Rourke. \u00a0This means no co-ed living situations, girls and guys out of the \u00a0respective houses by 9 p.m., and a general ethos of respect toward one another. Conversely \u00a0some of the dorms are co-ed at OSU, \u00a0 it wouldn’t take Freud to figure there’s probably a good deal of sleeping around, and many on the campus dress as, well, sex objects. \u00a0 \u00a0Continuing with \u00a0this, O’Rourke said that it is \u00a0his take that society is continually bombarding people with sexual imagery (immodest dress, sexually explicit media forms…) \u00a0at this point. And with the constant stimulus, it creates a tremendous urge to act out sexually. Meanwhile, the St. Paul’s guys played board games with our kids Saturday night. \u00a0 How tremendously<\/em> refreshing… \u00a0 I also talked with St. Paul’s Brian Fischer. \u00a0 He said St. Paul’s Outreach is experiencing a growth spurt, with other chapters starting up around the country. \u00a0 \u00a0Fischer said long term projections (based on God’s timing, of course) are \u00a0to have \u00a0St. Paul’s Outreach headquarters in as many states as possible, with satellites then forming at colleges around the state. \u00a0 For more on the program, see: www.spoweb.org<\/a>. \u00a0 \u00a0 Note:<\/strong> \u00a0 The day before we arrived at OSU, Hillary Clinton gave a talk at OSU’s French Field House. \u00a0 One of \u00a0her \u00a0college platform topics she addressed was rising interest on college loans. \u00a0 Given the chance, I would have talked — \u00a0at length<\/em> — \u00a0about these St. Paul’s Outreach students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
