{"id":760,"date":"2007-12-18T02:00:32","date_gmt":"2007-12-18T02:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.com\/wheresjoe\/?p=195"},"modified":"2007-12-18T02:00:32","modified_gmt":"2007-12-18T02:00:32","slug":"121707","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=760","title":{"rendered":"12\/17\/07"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During our pit stop in Cleveland inbetween campaign tours, my wife Liz and I have been coaching a soccer team at the local Rec. Center. \u00a0 (Liz is from New Zealand where soccer is <em>big<\/em>. \u00a0 I&#8217;m from Cleveland where only recently did I learn what a soccer ball looks like.) \u00a0 Anyway, \u00a0 Liz is the head coach and my main role is to say stuff like: \u00a0 <em>&#8220;Nice kick kid!&#8221;<\/em> \u00a0 \u00a0 And I&#8217;ve had the opportunity to say that a lot the past six games. \u00a0 Tonight was the last game, \u00a0 and our &#8220;Comets&#8221; fought to the end &#8212; \u00a0coming up just one agonizing goal short. \u00a0 Our final record was 3 and 3. \u00a0 But more importantly, I believe, \u00a0is this was six games where these inner city kids were lost in play, learning lessons about determination, sportsmanship, discipline&#8230;. \u00a0 What&#8217;s more, many of these youth don&#8217;t have a Dad at home to say: <em>&#8220;Nice kick kid!&#8221;<\/em> \u00a0 So they need to hear it somewhere. \u00a0 And in all this, somehow, sometimes: there&#8217;s grace. \u00a0 <strong>Note:<\/strong> \u00a0 The <em>Cleveland Plain Dealer<\/em> recently did an article on Mount Pleasant, \u00a0a predominately poor and Black region of Cleveland. \u00a0 The article noted that in the 1960s, eight of ten Mount Pleasant children had two parent families. \u00a0 Now two of ten children there have two parent families.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During our pit stop in Cleveland inbetween campaign tours, my wife Liz and I have been coaching a soccer team at the local Rec.
