{"id":752,"date":"2007-12-01T03:53:13","date_gmt":"2007-12-01T03:53:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.com\/wheresjoe\/?p=187"},"modified":"2007-12-01T03:53:13","modified_gmt":"2007-12-01T03:53:13","slug":"112807","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=752","title":{"rendered":"11\/28\/07"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My wife Liz and I attended a Bible Study at the Catholic Worker house in Cleveland. \u00a0 We&#8217;ve been studying the book: <em>Sabbath Economics: Household Practices<\/em>. Liz and I were asked to summarize the chapter on <strong>Solidarity<\/strong>. \u00a0 In part of this chapter, author Matthew Colwell \u00a0 writes: &#8220;&#8230;solidarity implies an alignment of ones location, life, vision and hope with that of the poor and marginalized.&#8221; \u00a0 I said as an example of this, several years ago students at Bluffton College built a &#8220;tent city&#8221; and slept out in the March cold in &#8220;solidarity&#8221; with people in Afghanistan being displaced to refugee camps when \u00a0the U.S. \u00a0started bombing that country. \u00a0 These students not only entered into some of these refugees&#8217; &#8220;location,&#8221; but they also raised money for a Habitat for Humanity home to be built in Afghanistan. \u00a0 (A Habitat home there costs $2,000.) \u00a0 Some Bluffton communtiy members, including our family, put up tents \u00a0on campus \u00a0in solidarity with the students. And our daughter Sarah, then six-years-old, told \u00a0a reporter from the <em>Lima News<\/em> that we were lucky to have a tent &#8212; because she had just seen \u00a0people sleeping in cardboard boxes in Juarez, Mexico, during a &#8220;Border Tour&#8221; we&#8217;d just completed. \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My wife Liz and I attended a Bible Study at the Catholic Worker house in Cleveland. \u00a0 We&#8217;ve been studying the book: Sabbath Economics: Household Practices.
