{"id":604,"date":"2007-02-26T17:44:40","date_gmt":"2007-02-26T17:44:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.com\/wheresjoe\/?p=37"},"modified":"2007-02-26T17:44:40","modified_gmt":"2007-02-26T17:44:40","slug":"22507","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=604","title":{"rendered":"2\/25\/07"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While at Koinonia Community Farm in Americus, Georgia, I talked with John Hall who is the author of the book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iuniverse.com\/bookstore\/book_detail.asp?isbn=0595385028\">The West Window<\/a><\/em>. \u00a0 The book is set in 1948, which Hall told me was a pivotal year \u00a0in regard to a \u00a0tremendous shift in farming technology. \u00a0 Pre-1948, there were some 10,000 operating small farms in Vermont. \u00a0 With the evolution of larger and more high tech farming technology, these numbers started to dwindle almost exponentially &#8212; as they did all over America. \u00a0 During Campaign 2000, I told the <em>Country Today<\/em> newspaper in northern Wisconsin that when we lose a small farm, we lose an integral part of the fabric of a much saner society. \u00a0 <strong>Note:<\/strong> \u00a0 While a ficticious work, Mr. Hall&#8217;s book captures the essence of some of the struggle against modern technology on the farm.
