For the last week, I’ve been painting the interior of an office complex up the street that is being readied for a Cleveland, non-profit refugee service. \u00a0 The building was \u00a0constructed in the late 1800s and just exudes character. The woodwork and cabinetry is solid (and I mean solid<\/em>) wood, inlaid with intricate designs. \u00a0 It reflects an era when things were done at a slower, more considered \u00a0pace and \u00a0the work was \u00a0meant to last, indefinitely. \u00a0 Now buildings are often slapped together with much less solid, prefabricated material that has a planned obsolescence (like car parts). \u00a0 We’re going at the wrong speed in America these days, too fast. \u00a0 Note:<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0I told the Crescent News<\/em> in Defiance, Ohio that, in many respects, it would be a step forward in \u00a0this country — to go back. \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
