Oglethorpe; b-ball in the mountains; Java Jo&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Catching up on the end of the tour&#8230;\u00a0 The &#8220;Georgia On My Mind Tour&#8221; (original, huh) included stops in Thomasville, Albany, Columbus, and Ft. Oglethorpe.\u00a0 During one of the TV news interviews, our young son Jonathan told the reporter he might get a little bored with living at the White House.\u00a0 &#8220;I mean, all you&#8217;d pretty much see is just white,&#8221; he said, somewhat seriously.\u00a0 The reporter smiled. So did we&#8230;\u00a0 In Albany, Georgia, we\u00a0met with the staff\u00a0at the <em>Bread Basket Bakery<\/em>.\u00a0 This is a bakery with a purpose.\u00a0 The proceeds from the bakery fund a rather nice halfway house for recovering women in Albany&#8230;\u00a0 In Ft. Oglethorpe, we attended one of their monthly &#8220;Cruise-ins.&#8221;\u00a0 Old fashion cars are parked up and down the main street here and speakers on telephone poles blast out such tunes as <em>Rockn&#8217; Robin<\/em>; the them from <em>Happy Days<\/em>; <em>Mustang Sally<\/em>&#8230;\u00a0 I knew the lyrics to the latter and started hamming it up by singing along &#8212; much to our teenagers&#8217; chagrins.\u00a0 We then interviewed Max Stoker for a You Tube video on his 1954 Champion Studebaker.\u00a0 It was quite a car&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0Following this we\u00a0drove through Tennessee north into Kentucky.\u00a0 On the last night of the tour, we stopped at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg.\u00a0 It was quite a night.\u00a0 Our kids got in a pick-up basketball game with some college students in this &#8220;old school&#8221; type, intrarmural gym.\u00a0 Watching the sunset over the mountains through some arched gym windows, with our kids playing a spirited basketball game on an old wooden floor in the foreground, was, well, something like a Norman Rockwell scene, in motion.\u00a0 We have had so many of those types of scenes, so many small town wholesome moments, in the traveling over the years.\u00a0 And Liz and I, as parents, have been tremendously blessed with it all.\u00a0 <strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong> The next morning on the way back to Ohio, we stopped in Dry Ridge, Kentucky, where we decided to &#8216;wet our\u00a0whistles&#8217; (sorry) with, of all things, Java Jo&#8217;s coffee.\u00a0 I passed out some campaign cards\u00a0there and one of the workers, Robin Bowers, said she had two daughters &#8212; in the Marines.\u00a0 She said while she was on board with military cuts that were about blatant waste, she didn&#8217;t want to see any cuts to things that would help her daughters on the battlefield &#8212; &#8220;&#8230;as they\u00a0are protecting our lives.&#8221;\u00a0 <strong>Note 2:<\/strong>\u00a0 At 3:58 p.m. Monday, &#8220;the beaver&#8221; landed back\u00a0in Bluffton, Ohio.\u00a0 We travel in a &#8220;vintage&#8221; (that is when it&#8217;s not acting up) 1978 Dodge Beaver Motorhome.\u00a0 As coincidence would have it, Bluffton University&#8217;s mascott?\u00a0 That&#8217;s right: &#8220;the beaver.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Catching up on the end of the tour&#8230;\u00a0 The &#8220;Georgia On My Mind Tour&#8221; (original, huh) included stops in Thomasville, Albany, Columbus, and Ft.
