{"id":1320,"date":"2012-02-28T16:14:18","date_gmt":"2012-02-28T16:14:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.wordpress.com\/?p=1320"},"modified":"2013-01-16T22:08:04","modified_gmt":"2013-01-16T22:08:04","slug":"bulletin-board-etiquette-dixie-highway-campaigning-brain-trust-deductive-logic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=1320","title":{"rendered":"bulletin board etiquette; Dixie Highway campaigning; brain trust; deductive logic&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Catching up on the last few days&#8230;\u00a0 Spent the end of last week going around Bluffton making sure our campaign fliers were still posted on various bulletin boards, in store windows, and the like.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve found you can&#8217;t just post them once and forget about &#8217;em. Not everyone, for instance, adheres to &#8220;bulletin board etiquette.&#8221;\u00a0 They&#8217;ll put up fliers over yours, or move your flier to a less visible area, or&#8230;\u00a0 I mean, someone covered up half of one of our fliers with a flier about a &#8220;Gluten Free Seminar.&#8221;\u00a0 Of course this was on the local Health Food Store bulletin board, so natural food flier competition is going to be <em>stiff<\/em>&#8230;\u00a0 And I haven&#8217;t just kept my fliers in Bluffton.\u00a0 Over the weekend, I took a trip down the Dixie Highway, Route 25.\u00a0 This was the first roadway that stretched all the way from Detroit in the north to Florida.\u00a0 (Highway 75 now runs parallel to it.)\u00a0 At the &#8220;Dixie Diner&#8221; on the outskirts of Lima, Ohio, I had a cup of coffee and put up a flier on their bulletin board.\u00a0 I did the same at the &#8220;Meeting Place on Market Cafe&#8221; in Lima (getting a &#8220;homemade&#8221; brownie there).\u00a0 I&#8217;ve come to find &#8220;bulletin board etiquette&#8221; also entails buying something at the establishment where they&#8217;re going to allow you (hopefully) to put the flier up.\u00a0 This could get to be an expensive campaign for us, Super PAC money notwithstanding (or even on the horizon).\u00a0 After posting the fliers, I went to a nearby McDonald&#8217;s where I approached a table of men who looked like &#8220;regulars.&#8221;\u00a0 I opened with:\u00a0 &#8220;It looks like you guys are the brain trust in the town&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 They all smiled.\u00a0 I then passed out some campaign cards and we talked politics for a time.\u00a0 It was noted that Rick Santorum had sponsored a car in the &#8220;Daytona 500 Race&#8221;\u00a0 this weekend.\u00a0 I decided not to tell them I was sponsoring (and even riding) a &#8220;bicycle in Bluffton&#8221; this weekend.\u00a0 I sensed they were conservative Republicans, so I thought I&#8217;d steer clear of global warming talk, and such.\u00a0 Typical politician.\u00a0 <strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong> I sat in on a graduate history class at Notre Dame University a couple years back.\u00a0 They were discussing when Saddam Hussein &#8220;gassed&#8221; the Kurds, and how we responded with a military strike.\u00a0 During the class, I noted that our country releases the most carbon emissions on the planet.\u00a0 If global warming is real, and it is setting in motion super-charged hurricanes, super-charged-typhoons, more drought and famine in arid countries&#8230; aren&#8217;t we, well,\u00a0 &#8220;gassing&#8221; the world?\u00a0 And if we follow this &#8220;deductive logic&#8221; (I used that terminology to impress the graduate students) through, wouldn&#8217;t that mean there should be a military strike against: us?\u00a0 It got kind of quiet in the class for a minute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Catching up on the last few days&#8230;\u00a0 Spent the end of last week going around Bluffton making sure our campaign fliers were still posted on various bulletin boards, in store windows, and the like.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve found you can&#8217;t just post <span class=\"excerpt-dots\">&hellip;<\/span> <a class=\"more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=1320\"><span class=\"more-msg\">Continue reading &rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1320","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1320","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1320"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1320\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1356,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1320\/revisions\/1356"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1320"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1320"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1320"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
