Neil told me the going cost for an on-the-market casket these days would be: $6,000, or so.\u00a0 Now&#8230;\u00a0 There are currently some 1 billion people living in slums throughout the Third World.\u00a0 At a stop at Habitat for Humanity Headquarters in Americus, Georgia, several years back, we learned Habitat builds new homes in Uganda, Tanzania, Biafra&#8230; to help get\u00a0families out of these slums.\u00a0 The cost: $2,000 a home.\u00a0 Some math:\u00a0 We currently bury one dead American for the same amount of money it would take to: <em>get three very alive families out of\u00a0slums in the Third World!\u00a0 <\/em>Let that sink in.\u00a0 <strong>Note:<\/strong> Overheard in Lima, Ohio, today&#8230;\u00a0 <strong>Q<\/strong>:\u00a0 &#8220;What is the biggest room in the world?\u00a0 <strong>A<\/strong>: Room for improvement.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0And on this &#8216;casket thing&#8217; in America, we have a <em>whole<\/em>\u00a0 lot of room for improvement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I talked with Neil Kehler who is involved with a &#8220;Casket Ministry&#8221; at First Mennonite Church in Bluffton, Ohio.\u00a0 He and other church &#8220;carpenter hobbyists&#8221; make nice, cherry wood caskets for deceased church members.\u00a0 The cost: $300.
