{"id":1236,"date":"2011-10-16T02:13:35","date_gmt":"2011-10-16T02:13:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.wordpress.com\/?p=1236"},"modified":"2011-10-16T02:13:35","modified_gmt":"2011-10-16T02:13:35","slug":"ada-a-bald-guy-nfl-footballs-coffee-addiction-tipping-point-not-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=1236","title":{"rendered":"Ada, a bald guy, NFL footballs, coffee addiction, &#8220;tipping point&#8221; (not), trade&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The campaign rolls on&#8230;\u00a0 While the more high-profile candidates jockey for position on the national stage, we went to:\u00a0 Ada, Ohio (pop. 6,052), this week.\u00a0 I stumped at the Sawmill Restaurant, a small locally owned eatery in the center of town.\u00a0 It sits just adjacent to the Ada Post Office.\u00a0 And I walked out of the restaurant just in time to see a middle-age, kind of paunchy bald guy emerge from the post office with a t-shirt that read:\u00a0 <strong>&#8220;With a body like this, who needs hair!&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0 (Is it just me, or is this t-shirt prose thing getting more and more off-the-wall?)\u00a0 Incidentally, while in Ada we learned a small Wilson Sporting Goods factory here: makes all the footballs for the NFL.\u00a0 How&#8217;s that for trivia?\u00a0 Then it was on to Lima, Ohio&#8230;\u00a0 In Lima,my daughter Sarah and I went to <strong>The Meeting Place (on Market)<\/strong> for lunch.\u00a0 And I put up a campaign flier in the front window there.\u00a0 That&#8217;s right, our answer to the multi-million dollar campaign TV ads:? Well placed fliers.\u00a0 (And we continue to do all of this without paid political consultants.)\u00a0 The Meeting Place has a rather large variety of coffee drinks and a list of <strong>10 Things That Might Mean You&#8217;re Coffee Addicted.<\/strong>\u00a0 One of them:\u00a0<em> &#8220;You think sleep is only for the weak.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong> At a gas station in Ada, I put up a campaign card that reads, in part: <strong>Average Joe for President.<\/strong>\u00a0 The cashier glanced up at it and asked:\u00a0 &#8220;You&#8217;re running for president of what?&#8221;\u00a0 Apparently we haven&#8217;t reached a &#8220;tipping point,&#8221; yet.\u00a0 <strong>Note 2:<\/strong> Free trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama were approved this week by the House. This will open the door to way more trans-continental shipping and all the attendant global warming gases that come with that. It will also open the door to more sweat shop conditions in these other countries &#8212; so they can compete.\u00a0 So this might, in the short term, create more jobs in the U.S. because of ramped up exports, but at what long-term costs globally?
