We have come to Carabelle, Florida (pop. 2,778) to, in part, \u00a0participate at \u00a0the Annual River Front Festival…<\/strong> \u00a0 During the event, I met with former Carrabelle Mayor Mel Kelly. \u00a0 She told me one of her biggest accomplishments was getting a number of grants to install filters in the storm sewers to clean the water before it gets to the Gulf of Mexico here. \u00a0 People don’t realize, I responded, that one of the biggest pollution problems in America (besides oil spills, that is) is “non-point source pollution.” \u00a0 That is things like rainwater washing motor oil, transmission fluid, rust and so on, \u00a0into storm drains — without filters… \u00a0 I then met with Cal Allen, a city commissioner here. \u00a0 He said he has been staunch about not letting big, new developments into this quaint Gulf-side town… \u00a0 After talking to Allen, I took on a persona, well, he would not be too fond of. \u00a0 I was the “Sea Tramp”<\/strong> in the festival’s Fishy Fashion Show<\/em>. \u00a0 (The things I do to get elected.) \u00a0 I wore a coat with “fish tails,” a sponge bow tie, a crab cage hat (that was a bit <\/em>uncomfortable) and had “sand dollars” in my pocket. \u00a0 According to the local lore, I would hang around the beach trying to scheme where my next easy sand dollar would come from — like, for instance, \u00a0proposing new, 30-story, high-rise condominiums. \u00a0This received a resounding “boo” from the natives. \u00a0 Toward the end of my Sea Tramp miming, if you will, the narrator Joan Matey, said: \u00a0 “Donald Trump has nothing on this guy.”<\/em> \u00a0 (Except better poll numbers at this point.) \u00a0 And by the way, Ms. Matey also explained I was, indeed, \u00a0running for president. \u00a0 Of the United States. \u00a0 Of America. \u00a0 One of my campaign promises: \u00a0 “A fish in every skillet!” \u00a0 Well, when in Rome… Note: \u00a0 <\/strong>Our Sarah was also a “Fishy Fashion” model this day. \u00a0 (Photos by Randy Harrison.)
