{"id":1117,"date":"2011-04-14T01:40:08","date_gmt":"2011-04-14T01:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.com\/wheresjoe\/?p=590"},"modified":"2011-04-14T01:40:08","modified_gmt":"2011-04-14T01:40:08","slug":"too-convoluted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=1117","title":{"rendered":"Bill, birds and &#8216;Buford&#8217;&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have launched on our next tour leg&#8230; \u00a0 Our first stop was Macon, Georgia &#8212; not by design. \u00a0 We got a flat. \u00a0 At Yancey Tires, owner Bill Yancey (calloused greasy hands and a rumpled shirt that read: <strong>Bill<\/strong>) said it was, indeed, &#8216;time for a change&#8217; (some simple common sense) in D.C. \u00a0 His belief: \u00a0 If you&#8217;re a lawyer, you&#8217;re not allowed to be in Congress. \u00a0 Everything has gotten too complicated, and too convoluted, he added. \u00a0 I underscored that by saying to him that the tax code book in D.C. is now a mind boggling (literally) <em>15,100<\/em> pages long. \u00a0 Written, in part, by (You guessed it.): lawyers&#8230; \u00a0 While at Yancey&#8217;s, I also checked the condition of our spare tire. \u00a0 It&#8217;s mounted on the back. \u00a0 When I took the cover off, I found a bird had built a nest in it over the winter &#8212; complete with five fledgling birds! \u00a0 Our Sarah took the birds onto her bed in the back of the camper and became, well, &#8216;mama bird.&#8217; \u00a0 For several hours, as they perched on her hand, her arm, her shoulder&#8230; she tried to get them to eat (cracker crumbs, bread crumbs&#8230;), but they weren&#8217;t biting, so to speak. \u00a0 When we got to Tobesofkee State Park later in the afternoon, the family consensus was Sarah&#8217;s best bet was: worms. \u00a0 She proceeded to find a couple small worms and was trying, again in vain, with these. \u00a0 I mentioned that the mother bird ingests the worm then regurgitates it for their young. \u00a0 Sarah rolled her eyes and said: \u00a0 &#8220;I&#8217;m not doing <em>that<\/em> dad!&#8221; \u00a0 Eventually we decided to take the birds out by the woods, and wouldn&#8217;t you know: they all flew off as natural as if they were, well, birds. \u00a0 <strong>An addendum:<\/strong> \u00a0 When I got back to the campaign vehicle, I turned on the radio. \u00a0 The dial happened to be on a local Christian radio station out of Macon.
