{"id":1116,"date":"2011-04-06T13:21:19","date_gmt":"2011-04-06T13:21:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.com\/wheresjoe\/?p=589"},"modified":"2011-04-06T13:21:19","modified_gmt":"2011-04-06T13:21:19","slug":"growth-compounding-on-itself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=1116","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;&#8230;growth compounding on itself.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I met with Tevyn East who travels the country putting on a one woman<a href=\"http:\/\/www.affordinghopeproject.org\/\"> The Affording Hope Project<\/a> stage performance. \u00a0 The crux of the presentation (combining song, story telling, prayer&#8230;) is to explore the links between faith, ecology and the global economy. \u00a0 Ms. East performs with a sense of urgency because of the &#8220;environmental crisis that is upon us.&#8221; \u00a0 She said she sees the dominant paradigm, &#8220;growth compounding on itself,&#8221; as the crux of the problem. \u00a0 That is, an almost out of control growth that is profit driven, as opposed to a much saner pace that revolves around providing for the common good. \u00a0 How this would translate, Ms. East said to me, is the establishment of many more small, alternative economies within the context of local community. \u00a0 That is, a premium would again be placed on local production for local consumption, much more of an emphasis on quality craftsmanship as opposed to mechanized assembly line work, and so on. \u00a0 What Ms. East&#8217;s performance reflects, in part. is what we believe about the economy as well.
