{"id":1058,"date":"2010-08-09T16:54:41","date_gmt":"2010-08-09T16:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.com\/wheresjoe\/?p=498"},"modified":"2010-08-09T16:54:41","modified_gmt":"2010-08-09T16:54:41","slug":"now-thats-what-this-country-needs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=1058","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Now that&#8217;s what this country needs.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We traveled to Lander, Wyoming, as our next stop in our <em>Roaming Wyoming Campaign Tour<\/em>. \u00a0 There was a &#8220;Community Meal&#8221; in a downtown grocery store parking lot to celebrate the town \u00a0pulling together to make it through a recent flood. \u00a0 There were a number of politicians there stumping, including, well, \u00a0us. \u00a0 Liz and I walked throughout the crowd of some 1,000 people, shaking hands passing out <em>a lot<\/em> \u00a0 of \u00a0campaign fliers. \u00a0 As I walked away from one table, after explaining I was simply an \u00a0&#8220;average guy with some common sense from Cleveland, Ohio,&#8221; I overheard one man say to the others: \u00a0 <strong>&#8220;Now, <em>that&#8217;s <\/em>what \u00a0this country needs.&#8221;<\/strong> \u00a0 &#8230;While in Lander, I also \u00a0talked with \u00a0professor Jason Baxter, who just took a job here with Wyoming Catholic College. \u00a0 (He was formerly a professor at Notre Dame University.) \u00a0 He said students at WCC aren&#8217;t allowed television sets, i-pods, video games&#8230; \u00a0 Professor Baxter said they are here to study, discuss what they&#8217;re studying, and get to know each other. \u00a0 &#8220;We&#8217;ve become a culture of infinite distraction,&#8221; he added. \u00a0 <strong>Note:<\/strong> \u00a0 On the way to Lander, we stopped in Lamont, Wyoming (pop. 4), and they were all at the <strong>Grandma&#8217;s Restaurant<\/strong> when I arrived. \u00a0 If we don&#8217;t carry Lamont, I&#8217;ll be surprised&#8230; \u00a0 We then stopped at <strong>Muddy Gap Junction<\/strong> gas station, where I stumped with five Wyoming University College students chillin&#8217; in the back of their hatchback. \u00a0 They were \u00a0on their way to a mountain biking weekend. \u00a0 We discussed global warming, the economy and immigration. \u00a0 One of the students was from Phoenix and said she was opposed to the new Arizona immigration law because she felt it would lead to, among other things, &#8220;racial profiling.&#8221; &#8230;Inside the store at Muddy Gap, the walls are absolutley filled with all kinds of magic marker writings. \u00a0 After some strategic thinking, I decided to write: \u00a0 <strong>&#8220;Vote average Joe Schriner for president&#8221;<\/strong> &#8212; in a blank spot just above the urinal. \u00a0 Once again, we&#8217;re doing this all without any paid political consultants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We traveled to Lander, Wyoming, as our next stop in our Roaming Wyoming Campaign Tour. \u00a0 There was a &#8220;Community Meal&#8221; in a downtown grocery store parking lot to celebrate the town \u00a0pulling together to make it through a recent <span class=\"excerpt-dots\">&hellip;<\/span> <a class=\"more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=1058\"><span class=\"more-msg\">Continue reading &rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1058","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1058","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1058"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1058\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1058"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1058"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1058"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
