{"id":1046,"date":"2010-07-03T21:23:37","date_gmt":"2010-07-03T21:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voteforjoe.com\/wheresjoe\/?p=485"},"modified":"2010-07-03T21:23:37","modified_gmt":"2010-07-03T21:23:37","slug":"drums-keep-pounding-rythym-to-the-brain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voteforjoeblog.com\/?p=1046","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Drums keep pounding rythym to the brain&#8230;&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re in Loveland, Colorado, where I interviewed Adrian Yanez.  \u00a0He is a music teacher at a local school and worked in the music industry for years as well.  \u00a0He said music connects with us on three levels.  \u00a0That is: physically, mentally and spiritually.  \u00a0And what connects with these is rhythm, harmony and melody.  \u00a0Mr. Yanez, who is Catholic, said there is a lot of secular music that conveys good messages.  \u00a0However, he said there is a lot that doesn&#8217;t.  \u00a0And what&#8217;s more, it (rock, rap, hip hop&#8230;) appeals to our carnality, our materialism, our tendency toward violence&#8230;  \u00a0This is such a tremendously important point, in looking at triggers that, at least in part, lead to the sociological problems we have today.  \u00a0Violence is almost off the scales in our big cities, to rap back beats.  \u00a0Sexual acting out is rampant, as explicit rock lyrics (&#8220;Why don&#8217;t we do it in the road&#8230;&#8221;) psychologically urge us on.  \u00a0Drug use increases exponentially (&#8220;One pill makes you morbid, another makes you small&#8230;&#8221;).  \u00a0For us to think that much of this music is merely inane background noise that doesn&#8217;t influence us is: merely nuts.  \u00a0As parents, Liz and I closely monitor the music our children listen to (as do the Yanez&#8217;s).  \u00a0In these days, it&#8217;s important parents, well, be parents.
