Catching up on my notes… A couple weeks back we were at Jubilee Partners Community in Comers, Georgia. \u00a0 This is a Christian community that takes in refugees from all over the world. \u00a0 While at Jubilee, I interviewed Liz Purdy who volunteers here. \u00a0 She recently graduated from Gonzaga University in Washington. \u00a0 She was also in Tanzania for three years doing humanitarian outreach. \u00a0 She worked in an orphanage there and was overwhelmed with the malnutrition and disease that she saw. \u00a0 “There’s tremendous injustice and inequality in the world,” she lamented. \u00a0 “Where did we go wrong?” \u00a0 …Jubiliee Partners currently has a group of refugees from Burma. \u00a0 The Burmese government is currently a militarily controlled junta. \u00a0 The government is aligned against pro-democracy forces in the country. A bloody civil war has erupted and some Burmese have fled to refugee camps in Thailand. \u00a0 A small percentage of these people have come to America… A Lenten reflection from a daily meditation book was on the wall in the community room at Jubilee. \u00a0 It read: \u00a0 “Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan to make his point. \u00a0 Compassion and service make a neighbor, not nationality, proximity or race…” \u00a0 Note:<\/strong> \u00a0 With all eyes on the miner saga in Montcoal, W.Va., a question: \u00a0 Is our energy gluttony in America setting the stage for these people to go into these dangerous mine shafts in the first place? \u00a0 We’re all, it seems, complicit in this tragic accident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
